A second location for dog-friendly spot Barkside, where pets and owners or friends can socialize and relax while enjoying craft beverages, is opening on Saturday, Sept. 27.
Doors open at 11 a.m. for Barkside, Detroit’s first dog park with a beer garden, at the new Southfield location at 15640 W. Eleven Mile Road.
Cody Williams and David Oh, two Detroit dog parents, co-founded Barkside, opening their first location two years ago, built on a vision to “create a safe, social space where dogs and humans can both feel at home,” according to a news release.

It was earlier this year that the owners announced plans for the second location in Southfield.
“Our vision for Barkside has always been about more than just a bar or a dog park. It’s about creating a place where dog lovers and dogs can safely socialize, unwind, and have fun,” said co-founder Cody Williams in a news release.

Inside, dogs have 5,000 square feet of climate-controlled, off-leash, weatherproof play space. While the dogs play, there’s Wi-Fi, big-screen televisions and a bar offering Michigan-made beer, craft cocktails, wine, mocktails, and coffee to entertain humans.

Outdoors, dogs have 8,000 square feet of fenced-in space where they can roam and socialize – rain, shine or snow. Barkside’s outdoor area also has dog-friendly mulch and drainage rock. Both indoors and outdoors, there’s a dedicated space for small dogs.

To celebrate Southfield’s grand opening, dogs enter for free starting Saturday through Oct. 3. Those guests who have an active monthly or annual membership can enjoy a $1 glass of champagne as a toast to the newest Barkside location.

“We’ve already welcomed more than 50,000 canine visits at Barkside Detroit since 2023, proof that once dogs experience Barkside, they can’t wait to come back,” said co-founder David Oh.Barkside Southfield opening hours are 4-9 p.m. Monday-Friday, 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Saturday, and 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Sunday.
Here’s how Barkside works:
Humans enter for free, while dogs require either a day pass or a membership.
Day passes are $10 per dog, Monday through Friday, and $15 per dog on Saturday and Sunday.
A monthly membership is $40 per month with unlimited visits.
Yearly membership is $375 per year with unlimited visits.
One membership allows access to both Barkside locations. In Detroit, Barkside is at 7960 Kercheval Ave., in the West Village area.

At Barkside, all dogs must be at least 6 months old and up to date on vaccinations, with those 12 months and up spayed or neutered.
Also on-site are trained canine behavior specialists, called “Rufferees,” who monitor all play areas for safety.Expect other events, from trivia nights to breed meetups, member mingles, movie nights and craft nights. You can also host dog birthday parties.
