San Ramon police arrested seven suspects after over two dozen masked robbers stormed a high-end jewelry store in broad daylight while seizing an estimated $1 million worth of merchandise in a heist.
Dramatic footage recorded by an in-store security camera shows the precision raid on Heller Jewelers at City Center Bishop Ranch in California, which unfolded Monday afternoon, when suspects armed with at least three guns smashed display cases with crowbars and pickaxes.
“When they went in, they basically took over the store,” Lt Mike Pistello of the San Ramon Police Department told ABC7.
“What ended up happening was, once the suspects went in, the door locked behind them,” he added.
Security upgrades installed after a 2023 robbery kicked in when the suspects became trapped inside the locked showroom. Cellphone video shows the group firing shots to blast open the exit.
Police credited a state-organised retail theft grant for their swift response, with a department drone capturing video of suspects escaping in six vehicles parked just 100 feet from the entrance. The footage, combined with surveillance and bystander videos, led to arrests in Oakland and at a nearby BART station.
Police believe the suspects, aged 17 to 31, several of whom are still at large, could be connected to a wider organised theft network. All suspects are from Oakland.
