Belmont Middle School placed under lockdown due to threat

Belmont Middle School was placed on lockdown Sept. 25 because someone called and threatened a school shooting, but police have found no threat at the school, according to the Belmont Police Department.

The call came from a number based in New York City, Capt. Matthew Sherrill said.

“It was a kid that just randomly picked Belmont Middle,” he added. Police in that students’ jurisdiction were notified.

Students were already in class when the call was made. The threat was found to be unfounded, and the lockdown was lifted later Thursday morning.
