Cincinnati police arrested a Mount Auburn man in connection with a fatal shooting in Walnut Hills in March.
Police arrested Mercedes Pankey, 35, and charged him with murder in the death of 34-year-old Thomas Alexander.
Police were called to the Park Eden apartment building on Park Avenue around 3 a.m. March 21.
Officers found Alexander shot in the stairwell, Captain Stephen Bower told Enquirer media partner Fox 19 after the shooting.
Alexander, of Grove City, was taken to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
Additional information about what led up to the shooting was not immediately available Thursday.
The investigation by the department’s homicide unit is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call 513-352-3542.
Reported homicides up in Walnut Hills this year, data shows
Reported homicides have increased in Walnut Hills this year compared to last year.
There have been four reported homicides in Walnut Hills so far in 2025. By this time last year, there was one reported homicide.
Citywide, there have been 43 reported homicide incidents this year.
