Cody Scott, the Logansport Police Department Officer who is facing two level 6 felony charges of neglect of a dependent, has resigned from the department.
Interim Police Chief Shawn Heishman announced Scott’s resignation Wednesday during the Board of Works’ weekly meeting.
“After much consideration I have decided to resign as a patrolman of the Logansport Police Department. This decision is not one that has been easy to make, but is something that I feel is best for myself, my family, and the department,” Scott wrote in his resignation notice. “I would like to thank everyone at the Logansport Police Department for their impact they have had on me over the last nine years and I will cherish these memories and experiences for the rest of my life.”
The board voted unanimously to approve the resignation.
According to court documents, two alleged incidents led to the charges against Scott. His wife, Kylie, faces identical charges.
The first charge accuses the defendants of forcing the victim, who is a dependent, to stand outside in “inclement weather/freezing temperatures for long periods of time” on Jan. 19.
The second charge accuses the defendants of forcing the dependent to wear or hold signs at school and in public that were “so offensive in nature that it put in danger her physical and mental health” between Aug. 1, 2024, and Jan. 19.
Scott had been on administrative leave since late January, when multiple calls were made to Cass Central Dispatch and a post criticizing Scott spread across Facebook. An Indiana State Police investigation started shortly after, and the findings were handed over to the Cass County Prosecutor’s Office.
An internal investigation by the department’s internal affairs officer was also launched.
The couple’s case has not yet gone to trial, and they have pleaded not guilty to the charges.
