Sep. 26—HARRISON, S.D. — Five people were injured, including three students, in a two-vehicle crash eight miles northwest of Harrison Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 24.
The names of the persons involved have not yet been released.
Preliminary crash information from the South Dakota Department of Public Safety indicates the driver of a 2012 International school bus was traveling northbound on 382nd Avenue. At the same time, the driver of a 1996 Kenworth was traveling westbound on 269th Street. Both vehicles entered into the uncontrolled intersection where the Kenworth collided into the side of the school bus.
The two drivers and all three student passengers — a 10 year old male, an 11 year old male and a 10 year old female — sustained serious, non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Kenworth, a 17-year old male from Corsica, has charges pending for failure to wear a seatbelt and both drivers have charges pending for failure to yield right of way at an intersection. The driver of the International was a 61-year-old male from Corsica, according to a release from the department.
The crash occurred at approximately 4:50 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. All information released so far is only preliminary.
