A 35-year-old man from Detroit died on southbound Interstate 75 near I-375 on Friday, Sept. 26, night, according to police.

The Detroit Regional Communication Center received calls around 10:05 p.m. saying a man walking northbound in the southbound lanes of I-75 was hit by a vehicle, according to Michigan State Police Second District on X.

First aid was started on the scene where troopers found the man in travel lanes, and the man was pronounced dead on the scene by Detroit Fire, according to MSP.

The driver of the vehicle stopped on the scene told troopers she was driving on southbound I-75 when a man ran across the freeway and she couldn’t stop in time, according to MSP.

Public Information Officer Lt. Mike Shaw said as of Saturday, Sept. 27 morning, it is unknown why the pedestrian was on the freeway.

“We want to remind the community that it is never a good idea to walk along the freeway and in fact it is illegal,” Shaw said. “This investigation is continuing and pends ME (medical examiner) reports.”

I-75 closed for investigation for several hours after the crash and has since reopened, Shaw said.
