SPD investigating officer-involved shooting

The Savannah Police Department is investigating an aggravated assault that led to an officer-involved shooting early Saturday morning, according to a press release. The officer has been paced on administrative leave pending an investigation.

Officicers were on foot in the area of Ann Street and Zubly Street when they heard shots fired at 1:20 a.m. They saw an unarmed adult male victim running while the suspect actively fired a gun at him. One of the officers drew his weapon and fired approximately three shots at the suspect before the suspect entered a vehicle and left the scene.

The victim reported no injuries after being interviewed by the detectives.

“In incidents where officers discharge their firearm and do not result in serious injury, the Savannah Police Department’s Internal Affairs Unit conducts an investigation into the case,” Assistant Chief Robert Gavin said in the press release.

No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.
