Ready for your October SSI check, Washington? You’ll get two in month

Must read

Washington state residents who receive Social Security Income will get two checks in October, or three if they also receive Social Security benefits.

SSI, which is managed by the Social Security Administration, provides monthly funds to qualifying people whose income and resources (such as vehicles or money in their bank accounts) are limited, according to the SSA.

But how the payment schedule works means that some months, recipients may get twice the checks, and some months, they’ll get no checks at all. Here’s why.

Why are there two SSI payments for October 2025?

As it was in February and May, SSI recipients will get two checks in the month of October. The October SSI payment is scheduled to be issued on Oct. 1, according to the SSA calendar, and the November SSI payment is scheduled for Oct 31. The November payment is issued early because Nov. 1 falls on a weekend.

SSI checks will be sent out on the following dates in 2025 and early 2026, according to the SSA calendar:

  • Monday, Dec. 1, 2025 (Check for December 2025)

  • Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2025 (Check for January 2026)

  • Friday, Jan. 30, 2026 (Check for February 2026)

  • Friday, Feb. 27, 2026 (Check for March 2026)

How many people in Washington receive SSI payments?

About 135,000 Washingtonians received SSI payments in August 2025, according to the Social Security Administration. About 115,000 recipients were in the blind and disabled category.

There were about 1.5 million Social Security beneficiaries in Washington state in December 2024, according to the agency’s statistics.

How much money can you make and still get SSI?

Generally, SSI is for individuals who don’t earn more than $2,019 from work each month, although that income limit increases for couples and when parents apply for children, said the SSA.

When are Social Security payments sent?

Social Security benefits — paid mostly to recipients who are older or retired — are typically paid on Wednesdays.

If a recipient’s birthdate is between the first and 10th of the month, they are issued payments on the second Wednesday of the payment month, according to the SSA’s calendar.

Recipients born between the 11th and 20th are paid on the third Wednesday, and those born after the 20th of the month get payments on the fourth Wednesday, according to the SSA payment calendar

For those who received Social Security before May 1997, you can expect your payment on the third day of the month, unless it falls on a weekend or holiday.

Those who receive both Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) can expect their Social Security payment on the third day of the month and their SSI payment on the first day, unless those days fall on weekends or holidays.
