BEDFORD, Pa. – Two Bedford County co-defendants who pled to 50 counts of animal cruelty and related charges earlier this year were sentenced by President Judge Travis Livengood Friday.
Nyal and Renee Piper received 90 months to 40 years in a State Correctional Institution, followed by 12 months of probation.
More than 90 animals were removed from the couple’s residence on Dec. 31, 2023.
“This case was horrific,” Bedford County District Attorney Ashlan Clark said in a released statement. “The abuse and neglect suffered by these animals was unconscionable. Animals are vulnerable victims – they cannot ask for help, and they cannot escape. It is our responsibility to speak for them and demand justice on their behalf.”
