A mass shooting at a Michigan church has left two people dead, nine others injured and the building on fire, police say.
The Grand Blanc Township Police Department posted to Facebook shortly after 11 a.m., saying there were “multiple” victims at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc Township. Later, police gave an update as firefighters worked to control the blaze. Videos posted to social media showed the building engulfed in flames.
“There are multiple victims and the shooter is down” at the church, at 4285 McCandlish Road in Grand Blanc, the police department said. “There is NO threat to the public at this time. The church is actively on fire. For people on site, the reuinification site is the pavilion to the north. Offsite reunification will be at Trillium Theater on Holly and McCandlish. PLEASE AVOID THE AREA!”
Genesee County Sheriff Christopher Swanson said McCandlish Road between Saginaw and Holly has been shut down.

Witness: Church is ‘completely destroyed’
Grand Blanc resident Tony Deck said he was sitting on his backyard patio about 10:15 a.m. Sunday when he heard sirens coming from Saginaw Street, about 300 yards from the church.
“I drove up before a lot of the police and ambulances got here, got out of my truck and ran towards it to see if there was anything I could do to help,” he said. “There was a silver Chevy Silverado that had been driven into the side of the church — not even through the doors. … It’s solid brick.
“There were at least four yellow canvasses over dead bodies that I could see at the time.”
As of noon, Deck said first responders had blocked off the area, preventing him from leaving. The church, he said, “is completely destroyed.”
