Dr. Mike Dyer, of the Proctorville Animal Clinic, was present. A regular visitor to the shelter, he said he was offering checkup and exams for dogs and cats, as well rabies vaccines and free toenail trims.
Lou and Brent Pyles, of the Humane Society, were set up near the entrance, distributing information on Paws on the Turf, a campaign to raise funds to install pet-safe green turf at the shelter.
Brent Pyles said the goal is to raise $50,000 for the turf through donations from individuals and business sponsors.
“It would be a safer base for the animals to roam in,” he said, noting it is intended for the kennels.
Pyles said it is easily cleanable and damaged portions can be replaced in sections.
“It can be cleaned like grass, and sprayed,” he said.
