Rocky Mountain, other national parks in Colorado remain open despite government shutdown

Must read

Rocky Mountain National Park, as well as other national parks in Colorado, remain open despite the federal government shutdown Oct. 1.

The park’s website said national parks “remain as accessible as possible” but that some services may be limited or unavailable.

The Coloradoan reached out to the park Oct. 1 with questions regarding what, if any, services were impacted but did not receive a response at the time this story was published.

October was the park’s fifth-busiest month in 2024 with nearly 400,000 visitors. The park drew nearly 4.2 million visitors all of 2024.

The month is popular for the fall colors changing and to experience the elk rut, or breeding season, when bull elk make a bugling sound to ward off competitors.
