Oct. 3—JAMESTOWN — A 31-year-old Jamestown man was arrested Friday, Oct. 3, after he allegedly fired gunshots in downtown Jamestown, according to Scott Edinger, Jamestown chief of police.

Kwamne Thomas Kane was arrested on suspicion of reckless endangerment with extreme indifference and discharging a firearm in city limits after the James Valley Special Operations Team served a search warrant at about 5:10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 3, Edinger said. Kane is in the Stutsman County Correctional Center where he awaits formal charges.

Jamestown police officers responded to a call of shots fired in the alley behind the 200 block of 1st Avenue South at 8:40 p.m. Thursday, Edinger said. He said a witness reported a man fired approximately five rounds from a handgun and left the area walking north.

Jamestown police officers responded to the alley behind Home Design Center and Jonny B’s Brickhouse within a minute but were unable to locate Kane, Edinger said.

During the search of the crime scene, officers located five 9 mm shell casings, Edinger said. He said an extensive canvas for video evidence and witnesses was conducted.

With witness statements and videos from multiple locations in the area, officers identified Kane as the suspect and verified his address, Edinger said. He said video evidence confirmed Kane returned to his residence and was likely still inside.

Edinger said investigators obtained a search warrant for Kane and his residence early Friday morning. The James Valley Special Operations Team was activated and served the search warrant at about 5:10 a.m. Friday at 402 2nd Ave. NW in Jamestown.

During the search, officers seized a 9 mm Ruger handgun and ammunition and clothing consistent with video evidence and witness descriptions.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.

The Stutsman County Sheriff’s Office, North Dakota Highway Patrol, Foster County Sheriff’s Office and Jamestown Area Ambulance also assisted the Jamestown Police Department.
