A Carver veteran who served in both the U.S. Army and Air Force will soon be buried at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne without any family or friends expected to attend.
Veterans groups are calling on the public to attend to ensure he receives a proper farewell.
According to his obituary, Francis M. “Frank” Dobrynski, 92, was a Korean War veteran who earned the National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal, died Feb. 11 at Royal Cape Cod Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Buzzards Bay.
Jay Beauregard of the Plymouth American Legion and Marine Corps League, Plymouth Detachment #1306 recently urged the public on a Facebook page to “be present so that he doesn’t leave alone.”
Since that post, the veteran community has organized a strong show of support.
According to updates from the Marine Corps League, Plymouth Detachment, on Facebook, groups confirmed to attend include the Patriot Guard Riders, American Legion Riders Post 40, Ride22: Prevention of Veteran Suicide and Taps for Veterans.
A procession will depart Cartmell-Davis Funeral Home, 619 State Road, Plymouth, at 10:30 a.m. on Oct. 17, with participants asked to arrive by 10 a.m. before continuing to the national cemetery.
“The Plymouth Marine Corps League and Post 40 Color Guard never expected such a response,” organizers wrote in an update. “We thank you.”
The service will include military honors and a firing party from the American Legion. Members of the public are welcome to attend.
