If you’re planning on traveling in the New England region on Thanksgiving this year, you’re probably already thinking about what the weather has in store.
Thanksgiving in 2025 falls on Thursday, Nov. 27, and the weather that time of year can range from perfect for an outdoor game of tag football to snowy slush.
The Old Farmer’s Almanac has issued its annual prediction for the country, and in the Northeast it’s looking pretty good for travel – whether it’s by car or plane.
What will the weather be like in the Northeast this Thanksgiving?
If you’re planning on staying within the New England corridor for Thanksgiving this year, your trip might be easier than you think.
The Old Farmer’s Almanac predicts sunny, but “cooler-than-normal conditions” in New England for Thanksgiving week.
“Snow is limited to a few northern spots—northern New England, the Upper Midwest, the higher elevations in the Intermountain West, and Alaska—where flurries could affect travel,” the Almanac states online.
A graphic on the Old Farmer’s Almanac website indicates that snow will be limited to the state of Maine during the week of Thanksgiving.
“Remember, Almanac long-range forecasts are exactly that—long range,” the website states. “They’re perfect for planning, but not a substitute for daily local forecasts.”

Old Farmer’s Almanac 2025-2026 winter forecast in New England
The Old Farmer’s Almanac is predicting a relatively mild and dry winter, while the traditional Farmer’s Almanac is forecasting a cold, snowy winter.
In the upcoming winter, the Old Farmer’s Almanac is saying to not expect too many snow days.
“Milder and drier, with most snow falling around the holidays and late winter. Fewer snow days could ease commutes, but not as we get ready to usher in 2026,” the forecast says.
While the overall snowfall is predicted to be below normal, the snowiest periods are expected in late December, early January and late February.
They’re also predicting above normal temperatures, with the coldest periods in mid to late December as well as early to late January.
