How to get from Autzen Stadium to Springfield? Here’s the new traffic control plan

Must read

The City of Springfield announced its new traffic control plan for fans leaving Autzen Stadium after Ducks’ home football games. Here’s what to know if you’re going east after the game.

Elyse Ditzel, spokesperson for the city, said given a lack of resources, Springfield started this football season not providing the traffic control it had previously.

But after traffic jams getting into Springfield after prior games this season, that practice will change starting with Oregon’s Oct. 11 game against Indiana.

The Springfield route to and from the stadium will now be staffed in addition to the Eugene route.

Springfield will:

  • Provide traffic control signs and officers.

  • Place cones to add a second lane to Eastbound Centennial Boulevard. The cones will remove the zipper merge usually there, maintaining a second lane from Rainbow Drive to Pioneer Parkway.

  • Allow both lanes on Centennial to turn left onto Pioneer Parkway.

In a news release, the city encouraged fans leaving Autzen through Springfield to get in Centennial Boulevard’s left lane if they are going to Eugene or I-5 South, and in the right lane if they’re going on I-5 North. Both groups of fans should turn left onto Pioneer Parkway East. Eugene and southbound fans should turn left again onto Q Street and follow signs to the Highway 126 onramp.

Northbound fans should continue on Pioneer Parkway East through the Harlow Road roundabout, exit the roundabout onto Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway and continue 1.6 miles to cross Gateway Street until reaching I-5. There will be signs for I-5 North.

Springfield’s statement said the city will continue to evaluate traffic after each home game, and adjust the pattern again if needed.
