Trump Ally Trolls Schumer for Changing Glasses To Seem ‘Hip and Feisty’

Must read

Rep. Mike Lawler (R-NY) trolled Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) over a fashion choice Lawler said is meant to make the Democratic leader look more “hip and feisty.”

Lawler joined Kayleigh McEnany on Fox News’ Saturday in America where he blasted Democrats, blaming their leadership for the current government shutdown. While addressing his heated hallway debate this week with House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY), Lawler accused both Jeffries and Schumer of being “petrified” of their “far-left base” amid the shutdown battle.

Democrats have refused to support a continuing resolution until Affordable Care Act (ACA) subsidies are extended. Lawler noted that Jeffries refused to sign a separate bill he co-sponsored that would extend those subsidies without being tied to the CR.

Lawler predicted that Schumer’s days are “numbered” and he’s keeping the shutdown fight going to try and preserve his leadership position. Lawler predicted Schumer will likely be challenged in the Senate by and lose to Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) in his next election.

“Chuck Schumer took so much heat in March when they passed a clean CR. And he’s so worried about AOC challenging him and losing control of his Senate Democratic conference that he’s trying to show. I mean, he even updated his glasses to show that he is hip and, you know, feisty now. But it’s absurd. The whole thing is performative,” Lawler said.

Lawler is referring to Schumer recently changing the style of his glasses, dropping his signature reading glasses.

“I have seen polling that shows her double digits ahead of Chuck Schumer. Do you think she chooses to run ultimately and defeats Chuck Schummer?” McEnany asked Lawler.

“I do think she will run for U.S. Senate in 2028. I don’t think she’ll run for president. And I think Chuck Schumer’s days are numbered. Look, he’s been in elected office for 50 years. He got elected in 1974 to the New York State Assembly, 1980 to Congress. It’s time to go. 50 years in public office. He has lost complete control. And it’s just it’s embarrassing at this point,” Lawler said.

McEnany noted House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), 53, was in grade school when Schumer, 74, was first elected. Lawler added that he wasn’t even born at the time.
