The Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an incident at Beaver Run Elementary School in which a first grade student on Tuesday, April 22, brought an unloaded handgun to school.

Here’s what the Sheriff’s Office had to say about the incident on Facebook.

The incident is being investigated with the cooperation of Wicomico County Public Schools.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, prior to dismissal, a teacher noticed what appeared to be a handgun in possession of a 7 year old student. The student had brought the unloaded handgun to school that morning.

The teacher and school administration followed all appropriate safety procedures, including notifying the appropriate public school personnel, law enforcement and parents.

All students and staff were safely dismissed Tuesday, April 22, without further incident, the Sheriff’s Office reports, adding that Beaver Run Elementary School and Wicomico County Public Schools are cooperating fully during this ongoing investigation.
