Among the April 18 return of indictments by the Laurel County Grand Jury was a London woman accused of shooting her mother.
Brianna Rich, 26, of London, was indicted on one count of murder for shooting her mother, Carol Rich. Brianna Rich was arrested by Laurel County Sheriff John Root around 9:30 p.m. March 14, for the same. She was arraigned shortly after, pleading not guilty to the crime.
According to the London-Laurel County 911 Communication Center, Rich called dispatch to report the shooting, stating that she had “shot at the female there” and was performing CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation).
Deputies responded to a residence off Burnett Road, approximately seven miles southeast of London, where they found Brianna Rich in the driveway near a deceased woman. Approximately 10 shell casings were recovered at the scene.
Det. McDaniel later confirmed that Carol Rich had been shot between 5-7 times, both inside and outside of the home. The incident followed a dispute between the mother and daughter that escalated and moved throughout the house. Blood was detected in the bathroom, kitchen, living room, and driveway.
Detectives gathered that, based on blood splatter, Carol Rich’s body had been moved and shot again. Det. McDaniel testified that Brianna Rich told him that she shot her mother again when she “couldn’t get her to stop gurgling.”
Officers recovered a 9mm pistol on scene.
Brianna Rich remains jailed at the Laurel County Correctional Center in lieu of a $250,000 bond. Her next court date is April 28, at 9 a.m. for a pretrial conference.
Several other individuals are also facing violent charges. The indictments are as follows:
— David Glenn Myers, 59, of Cornett Subdivision in London, was indicted on 13 counts involving a minor child under 12 years old. The indictment states that the first two — both being first-degree rape — occurred in July 2024.
Count three charges that, in August 2024, Myers committed first-degree rape against the child again. Count four charges him with first-degree rape in September 2024; count five charges him with first-degree rape in October 2024; count six charges him with first-degree rape in November 2024.
Going back to June 2024, count seven charges that Myers committed first-degree sexual abuse. Counts eight through 12 charge Myers with the same crime, between the months of July and November.
The 13th and final count states that, on or about June 2024 through November 2024, Myers distributed obscene matter to a minor by showing her “obscene photographs.”
Myers’ bond is $100,000, and he has a pretrial conference scheduled at 9 a.m. on April 28.
— Wyatt Alan Collins, 22, of Old Garrard Road in Berea, is facing similar charges. Collins was charged on eight counts, with the first two being rape in the first degree on April 10, 2021, through November 25, 2024.
Collins was also charged with sexual abuse of the same individual through the same dates. His seventh and eighth counts are both sodomy.
Collins’ bond currently sits at $250,000, with a sentence hearing set for July 18 at 9 a.m.
— Ivy Casteel, 22, of Full Moon Circle in London, was indicted on one count. The charge is first-degree assault for shooting Printice Pack in the stomach and thereby causing serious physical injury. Casteel’s bond is $100,000, with a sentence hearing scheduled on July 18 at 9 a.m.
— Kristen Lee Hoke, 39, of Little Drive in London, was also charged on one count — assault in the first degree. The charge stems from the stabbing of Jamie Williams, thereby causing serious injury. Hoke’s bond is $5,000, with a pretrial conference hearing set for April 28 at 9 a.m.
— James Edward Smith, 56, of Wren Road in London, was charged on one count of second-degree assault. The indictment states that Smith fired a shotgun toward Justin Hammons, causing the pellets to strike him in the chest and face — thereby causing serious injury. Smith’s bond is $25,000, with a sentence hearing scheduled on July 18 at 9 a.m.
There were a couple of cases of theft included in the roundup:
— Cody James Collett faces three counts, the first of which charges him with receiving stolen property in the amount of $10,000 or more by possessing a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado which had been stolen from Alonza and Niley Lewis. This occurred March 11.
Further, the Grand Jury charges that, on or about the same day, Collett received a stolen firearm which had belonged to Elbert Smith. The third and final count is for the offense of persistent felony offender in the second degree.
— Victoria E. Farris, 30, was indicted on one count for theft by unlawful taking of the value of $1,000 or more but less than $10,000 by taking $3,970 from Shell Mini Mart.
An indictment is an accusation only and does not imply guilt or innocence. A person is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
