Must read

A Rutherford County Sheriff’s School Resource Officer charged a substitute teacher at Siegel Middle with public intoxication Wednesday, a press release said.

SRO Austin Wortman made the arrest after Siegel Middle officials expressed concerns about the substitute, according to the press release.

“Substitute Deborah Gentry was believed to be under the influence of prescription medications,” Wortman said in the press release from sheriff’s spokeswoman Lisa Marchesoni.

SRO Sgt. Irvin Turner said none of the students were in danger, the press release added.

The sheriff’s office booked Gentry into Rutherford County Adult Detention Center.

Rutherford County Schools spokesman James Evans said the district notified parents about the situation.
