Man killed by deputies while stabbing father to death with a sword in Palm Beach

Must read

A man was shot and killed by deputies while stabbing his father to death with a sword inside of a Palm Beach County home early Saturday morning, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

A little after 3 a.m., Palm Beach County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call about an armed domestic violence incident at a home in the 6400 block of Emerald Dunes Drive near West Palm Beach. A family member who was at the home at the time had called 911, according to Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Teri Barbera.

When deputies entered the home, they found the son stabbing his father with the sword. They ordered him to drop his weapon but he did not comply, Barbera said, leading one of the deputies to shoot him.

Deputies “immediately rendered medical aid” to both the father and son, but both died of their injuries, Barbera said.

Other family members were at the home at the time, Barbera said, though she did not say how many. She could not say what led the stabbing to take place.

“We have no idea what escalated it or what led up to it,” Barbera said.

The deputy who shot the man is now on paid administrative leave. The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office Violent Crimes Division, the Palm Beach County State Attorney’s Office, and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement are all investigating.
