The German government on Monday expressed its shock at the deadly car-ramming incident in Vancouver, with left at least 11 people dead.
“We mourn with our Canadian friends,” government spokesman Steffen Hebestreit said in Berlin.
“Our thoughts are with the victims and their families – our deepest sympathies go out to them,” he added.
At least 11 people were killed when a 30-year-old suspect ploughed a car through a crowd at a Filipino festival in the western Canadian city of Vancouver on Saturday evening.
Dozens of people were also injured, according to local police, who warned that the number of fatalities could rise in the coming days and weeks.
The victims were aged between 5 and 65.
Some are yet to be identified by authorities.
Vancouver Police said the suspect, a resident of the city, was charged with eight counts of second degree murder, with further charges expected.
The man was arrested at the scene by police after bystanders and witnesses helped stop him.
