A security truck in Chicago accidentally dropped several bags of cash on its rounds that resulted in scores of passersby making off with $300,000 as they scrambled to leave with the money lying on the street.
In a police report last week, the incident was described as beginning when the back door of the truck – operated by Brinks Home Security – “opened by unknown means” as it drove down South Austin Boulevard in the city.
“Three bags full of United States currency fell out,” the police report said.
When the loss of the cash was discovered representatives from the security company returned to the scene, but found “50 to 100 people removing money from the scene and fleeing the area on foot and in vehicles”.
A spokesperson from the Village of Oak Park told NBC Chicago no one was in custody as of Friday.
