Images of pea-sized hail, toppled trees and downpours flooded social media Tuesday night as a severe thunderstorm ripped through western New York, sparking power outages for thousands of utility customers.
No tornadoes were reported in the region, according to the National Weather Service in Buffalo. The strong wind gust was 56 mph, recorded at the Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport at 7:16 p.m., according to the Weather Service.
