You’ve applied to your dream school, but what are the chances of getting in?
The average admission rate for four-year colleges in the U.S. in between 68% and 72%, according to the National Association for College Admission Counseling. But, of course, there’s a lot of variation.
Some of the most exclusive schools in the U.S., including one in Rhode Island, have admission rates lower than 10%, while other schools have admission rates near 100%.
Here’s a look at the admission rates for 10 of Rhode Island’s four-year schools
Brown University acceptance rate
For the class of 2028, Brown had a 5.4% acceptance rate, enrolling 2,638 students. Of the eight Ivy League schools, Brown’s acceptance rate is in the middle. The lowest is Harvard University at just 3.41%, and the highest is Cornell University at 7.34%, according to College Advisor.
Bryant University acceptance rate
Bryant University reported a 65% acceptance rate for the class of 2028. On average, their applicants had a 3.6 GPA and an SAT score of 1270 for for the writing and math sections combined (though it’s worth noting submitting standardized test scores is optional.)
Johnson & Wales University acceptance rate
At Johnson & Wales’s Providence Campus they have an admission rate of 83%, while their Charlotte campus has an admission rate of 73%, according to the University.
New England Institute of Technology acceptance rate
The New England Institute of Technology has an admission rate of 71%, according to U.S. News and World Report.

Providence College acceptance rate

Providence College had an acceptance rate of 50.8% for the class of 2028, according to their website. Of the students who were accepted, 87% played sports in high school, 79% worked a part-time job and 20% held a class office. The Catholic school also noted that 62% of the class of 2028 are Catholic.
Rhode Island College acceptance rate
Rhode Island College has an admission rate of 81%, according to U.S. News and World Reports.
Rhode Island School of Design acceptance rate
One of the more exclusive schools in the state, RISD has an acceptance rate of 14%, according to College Board. For the 2024-2025 school year, the school reported they enrolled 2,084 undergraduate students with an average class size of 15 students.
Roger Williams University acceptance rate

Roger Williams University has about 4,000 full-time students. The current admission rate for the school is 88%, according to College Board.
Salve Regina University acceptance rate

Salve Regina had had an average acceptance rate of 69% the last three years, according to their website. Their students have an average GPA of 3.5 in high school.
University of Rhode Island acceptance rate
University of Rhode Island has an acceptance rate of 77%, according to U.S. News and World Report. The middle 50% GPA range is 3.40 to 4.12 according to their website.
