A 25-year-old man was pronounced dead after a crash that left the SUV he was driving in flames and blocking lanes on North M-10 Lodge near Chicago Boulevard in Detroit early Saturday, June 7, police said.
Preliminary investigation shows the SUV drove up the Lodge’s embankment and struck a tree around 2:15 a.m., according to a statement by Michigan State Police Second District on X.
The SUV rolled over back onto the freeway after striking a tree, and at some point the driver was ejected from the vehicle, according to police on X.
“We are reminding drivers to wear their seatbelts,” Lt. Mike Shaw said in the X release. “Not only will it keep you behind the wheel, it will keep you inside the vehicle if it rolls over.
No other vehicles were involved in this crash and there were no other injuries, police said, and the crash is pending further investigation.
Michigan State Police did not immediately respond to requests to comment.
