A 34-year-old Alpena man accused of criminal sexual conduct was arrested on the M/V Kaye E. Barker freighter in the Soo Locks on Wednesday, June 4, police said.
Michigan State Police Alpena Post began investigating Dustin Haske in 2024. June 5, the day after his arrest, he was arraigned in 88th District Court on charges including six counts of criminal sexual conduct in the first degree, the most serious, and two counts in the third degree, according to a statement by MSP Eighth District on X.
Haske worked on the boat, according to a statement by MSP Eighth District on X.
Troopers from the Sault Ste. Marie Post and the MSP Seventh District Fugitive Team coordinated with the freighter’s captain and staff from the Soo Locks as the boat passed through, according to the police on X.
“As the boat tied up, troopers boarded the freighter, contacted the suspect, and placed him under arrest,” according to the X statement.
Haske is now being held in the Alpena County Jail on a $150,000 bond, police said. He is scheduled to appear in the 88th District Court in Alpena at 1:15 p.m. June 12.
