Rick Rouan assumed duties as managing editor of The Columbus Dispatch recently.
Rouan, 38, succeeds Encarnacion Pyle, who accepted a top editor role in Richmond, Va., earlier this year, said Executive Editor Michael Shearer.
A former Dispatch reporter for eight years, Rouan most recently served as Statehouse and Politics Editor for Cleveland.com. He’s also worked for USA TODAY’s Washington Bureau, Columbus Business First and other media outlets.
While at The Dispatch, Rouan covered the Statehouse, Columbus and Franklin County government and local politics, earning awards for government reporting and use of public records.
“We’re thrilled to have Rick join our talented team of local journalists working to serve central Ohio,” Shearer said. “He knows our community and local leaders and has produced outstanding journalism in his prior roles.”
Rouan, a graduate of Ohio University, will oversee the local news reporting staff and lead the planning and execution of the daily news report, weekly cover stories, projects and investigations.
“Working in leadership at The Dispatch is the realization of a goal I’ve had since I first stepped into the newsroom as a summer intern in 2008,” Rouan said. “I’m elated for the chance to work with this team to deliver the kind of journalism that pushes Central Ohio to solve its problems, holds its leaders to account and reflects on our community’s successes.”
