In fact, the Garden State competes with Rhode Island as the most densely populated state nearly every year, according to The Readers Digest.

There are 9.5 million New Jerseyans that live in the states’ 564 towns and municipalities.

So which town has the highest population?

In order to determine where the majority of people live, the family magazine sourced New Jersey Demographics data to discover which counties has most populous town across the state.

Two Ocean County towns ranked in the top 10.

Lakewood lands in the No. 4 spot, with a population of 139,866. Toms River made in the eighth spot, with a population of 99,091.
