An 18-year-old was arrested June 14 on charges of first-degree murder in connection with the death of a Bartonville man that occurred after police alleged the teenager and a friend drove a stolen vehicle into the tow yard where the man worked.

Terrance Shaw was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Peoria County Jail, according to the Peoria Police Department. Shaw was wanted on a first-degree murder warrant, along with business burglary and motor vehicle theft.

Shaw, along with 16-year-old Jaylin Polnitz, each had arrest warrants issued on first-degree murder charges after police responded to a report of a stolen vehicle at Billie Jo’s Towing on West Lincoln Avenue at 3:44 p.m. June 9. The Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office said two people attempted to flee the yard in a stolen vehicle as employees tried to close the gate; Shaw and Polnitz allegedly sped up and ran through the gate, hitting 70-year-old William Collier and another employee.

Both employees were taken to the hospital. One suffered minor injuries, but Collier eventually died.

Polnitz was arrested June 13 and is being tried as an adult due to the severity of the charges. Prior to his arrest, Shaw remained at-large, considered armed and dangerous. Officers located the vehicle after the incident.
