A manufacturing plant in Dothan will lay a sizeable percentage of its staff in the coming months.
Globe Motors, owned by the globally operational company Allied Motion, produces specialty motors.
According to the Alabama Department of Commerce, the company will lay off 73 employees at the Napier Field Road plant. A spokesperson for the Dothan location said that, pre-layoff, the plant employed “around 200 people.”
The WARN notice, as documented on the Alabama Department of Commerce site, was filed on May 27, with the layoffs going into effect on July 25.
The WARN act, a federal law passed in 1988, requires companies to notify workers in writing before mass layoffs. Specifically, companies with over 100 employees are required to provide a 60-day notice of significant layoffs or plant closings to allow workers to properly accommodate for the loss of work.

The WARN notice ahead of this layoff, as documented on the ADOC site, was only filed 59 days ahead of the effective action.
Allied Motion did not respond to multiple requests for comment on the situation, leaving the circumstances surrounding the layoff and its aftermath unclear.
