The Milwaukee area could see 90-degrees and potentially storms on the afternoon of June 17.
In southeast Wisconsin, especially by the Milwaukee area and south, highs could hit around 90 degrees in the early-to-mid afternoon, said J.J. Wood, meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Sullivan. The rest of the area will have temps in the mid-to-upper 80s.
“It looks like a pretty warm and humid day,” Wood said. “At this point, it doesn’t look like there’s going to be a lake breeze that happens.”
Winds are expected to remain out to the west for the most part, he said.
As we get into the evening of June 17, a cold front is going to move into the area and stall near or just south of the state.
That will bring a chance of showers and storms to the Milwaukee area beginning around 2 or 3 p.m., according to Wood.
The best chances for thunderstorm activity, however, look to be south of Milwaukee — towards Racine, Kenosha and Lake Geneva — from 5 to 9 or 10 p.m., Wood said. Milwaukee’s chances are slightly lower than those southern spots.
“There is some uncertainty with where they may develop,” Wood said, adding that while some development is expected in far southern Wisconsin, storms could develop even further south.
If the storms “can get going,” Wood said, they will have the potential for hail and some strong winds.
If thunderstorms are approaching your area, Wood recommended to seek shelter if you’re outdoors. And, have multiple ways to keep up with the forecast and receive warnings in case they would be issued.
When is the Milwaukee area’s next best chance to see storms?
With a low pressure system passing close by across the region, there’s a pretty good chance the Milwaukee area will experience showers and scattered thunderstorms during the daytime of June 18, which could linger into the early evening, Wood said.
“There’s a potential we could see some stronger storms, maybe a few severe storms as well, depending on where that low exactly tracks,” Wood said, adding that there’s also a chance of heavy rainfall.
Will the 90-degree temperatures continue?
While it will remain humid, temperatures will cool on June 18 down to highs in the low-to-mid 70s, Wood said.
There may be winds off the lake for some of the day, which would help keep it cooler, especially closer to shore.
