Alabama Law Enforcement Agency worker arrested after ‘pornographic’ letters to lawmakers

Must read

A former Alabama Law Enforcement Agency worker has been arrested and charged with four counts of Dissemination of Child Pornography after lawmakers were sent letters containing pornographic pictures, an ALEA spokesman said.

John Watson, 54, of Dothan has been arrested and booked into the Houston County Jail with no bond, ALEA spokesman Jeremy Burkett said. Watson was a driver license examiner with ALEA’s Driver License Division. He was placed on mandatory leave April 9 and resigned April 10 “in lieu of termination,” Burkett said.

The investigation started when special agents with ALEA’s State Bureau of Investigation responded to reports of three suspicious letters received by members of the Alabama House of Representatives and a letter received by Gov. Kay Ivey’s office. Each letter contained “a number of pornographic images,” Burkett said.

No other information was immediately released by ALEA.
