In case you see smoke at Newark Liberty International Airport on the morning of June 28, do not be alarmed. The smoke and emergency vehicles at the airport are part of a practice emergency response exercise that will be conducted by officials.
The routine exercise meant to practice emergency responses will take place at Newark Airport between 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on June 28, announced the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey in a press release.
Airport operations will not be affected by the ongoing procedures.
These training exercises are conducted regularly throughout the year, officials said. The other airports under the Port Authority’s guide, Teterboro, LaGuardia, JFK and New York Stewart International, also go through these procedures.
The exercise is meant to practice “the airport’s emergency plan for mutual aid response.” Airport personnel, including Port Authority Police Department, civilian staff and emergency response organizations will partake in the exercises.
The press release sent by Port Authority did not specify where the simulated smoke will be at the airport, and did not state the specific emergency response procedures that will take place. Port Authority officials said they are drafting a response to these questions when asked by NorthJersey.com in an email.
