Tim Haverstock wanted to give back to the community that supported him as a youth.
Now 68, Haverstock serves as the chief executive officer at the J. Babe Stearn Boys & Girls Club of Canton.
“Growing up in Canton, I spent time at the Canton Police Boys Club,” he said. “I’ve been working at the center for over 45 years now, and every day is an opportunity to pay it forward.”
Haverstock, who lives in Louisville, is married to Judy. They have one son, RJ, and daughter-in-law Chanel and three grandchildren, Henry, James and Charlie.
He is a graduate of Canton City Schools and attended Kent State University. He uses his talents working with youth to create a safe place for kids to grow.
“I help create a safe and supportive environment where kids can grow, learn and build positive relationships,” Haverstock said. “Whether through sports, after-school programs or mentorship, the goal is to give youth a sense of belonging and direction.”

What or who has been the biggest source of motivation or inspiration to make you want to work with youth?
My faith is a cornerstone of who I am and it has been the greatest source of inspiration in my life. It motivates me daily to lead with purpose, compassion and a desire to share that same sense of hope and guidance with others.
Why do you feel it is important to offer services such as those at the Stearn Center to area youth?
A lot of kids in our community face challenges beyond their years. The Stearn Center gives them a safe space, structure, and people who care. It’s more than just programs — it’s about providing stability and hope, which are absolutely essential for them.
What is your favorite season in Ohio?
Fall is definitely my favorite. The crisp air, football season, and all the community events that help bring people together. It’s a time of year that feels both energetic and comforting.
What are a few traditions that bring your family together throughout the year?
We gather for a big Sunday dinner every week — it’s our time to slow down and reconnect. In the summer, we always spend a long weekend at Atwood Lake, and around the holidays we go all out with decorating and baking as a family.
What are three things you look forward to each day?
First, seeing the kids walk through the door with energy and smiles. Second, getting to work with a team that truly cares. And third, heading home at the end of the day to spend time with my family — no matter how hectic, that time means everything to me.
