A gunman remained at large after an argument escalated into a shooting in the parking lot of a Phelan shopping center on Wednesday evening, authorities said.
The gunfire unfolded about 7:30 p.m. at the Phelan Village Shopping Center, at the southwest corner of Phelan and Sheep Creek roads, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.
“An altercation between two subjects occurred in the parking lot… which resulted in one subject being shot,” the sheriff’s department said in a written statement.

Both the shooter and victim left the area following the shooting.
The victim turned up a short time later at a nearby home, officials said. The man was flown to a trauma center by helicopter for medical treatment. An update on his condition was not available.
Sheriff’s officials said the shooter fled the scene in a White Ford Fusion. He was described as a Latino man in his 40s, with a bald head a black goatee. He wore a black shirt, camouflage shorts, long white socks and blue shoes.
