ALEA encourages safety, increases patrols for Fourth

Jul. 3—Ahead of the Fourth of July, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency promoted safety with a Standards and Success campaign.

“Our message this year is clear: Success means everyone makes it home safely,” said ALEA secretary Hal Taylor. “This starts by making safe choices non-negotiable standards, both behind the wheel and on the water.”

ALEA emphasized four tips to keep roadways safe this holiday: wear your seat belt, put your phone down, obey the speed limit and never drive impaired.

In addition to patrolling the highway, ALEA’s Marine Patrol Division will participate in Operation Dry Water. The campaign, put on by the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators, aims to prevent the dangers of boating under the influence through increased law enforcement over the holiday weekend.

“Our goal isn’t to write tickets — it’s to save lives,” said Colonel Jonathan Archer, director of ALEA’s Department of Public Safety (DPS). “Our core mission is public safety, and our resolve is unwavering. We are here to enforce Alabama laws to protect every citizen, which means holding dangerous drivers and boaters accountable for their actions.”

ALEA will also patrol the Gulf Coast by monitoring the beaches and deploying rescue swimmers when necessary to people needing help in the waters.
