Must read

Colorado has some of the country’s best places for people and pets to mingle.

A dog park, cat cafe and dog bar in the state were all recognized in the USA TODAY 10BEST Readers’ Choice Awards. The locations were recognized among the best places for pets (and presumably their people) in the U.S.

Pub Dog Colorado ranked No. 2 in the country among dog bars, while Denver Cat Company was named the No. 7 cat café and part of Cherry Creek State Park was ranked No. 7 among dog parks. Other categories honored included the best dog-friendly beaches, pet-friendly hotels, pet subscription boxes and pet stores.

Here’s what readers loved about the locations.

What makes Pub Dog Colorado one of the best dog bars?

This social hub in Colorado Springs features an off-leash indoor/outdoor dog park that gives your pup a safe place to play while you try craft beer, cocktails or pub grub. Its steady stream of events and happy hour deals make Pub Dog a great place to go even if you don’t have a furry friend.

What makes Denver Cat Company one of the best cat cafes?

Think of it as speed dating for the cat curious. For $15, guests here get 50 minutes with the cats on site at Denver Cat Company, all of which are available through Denver Cat Rescue for adoption.

What makes Cherry Creek State Park one of the best dog parks?

The off-leash area at Cherry Creek State Park, featuring 100 fenced-off acres, stood out to readers of USA TODAY 10BEST. The area includes access to Cherry Creek Reservoir for swimming but be aware that the park’s popularity can lead to long wait times to access it if you aren’t there early.

How were the USA TODAY 10BEST Readers’ Choice Awards decided?

USADAY 10BEST says a panel of experts nominated places in each award category, with the final nominees selected via editorial review by its editors. Once the nominees in an award category were announced, the public had four weeks to vote online for their favorites. People could vote for one nominee in each category each calendar day.
