At least 27 people are dead and dozens remain missing after severe storms and flash flooding swept through Central Texas — including 27 girls from Camp Mystic, a youth camp along the Guadalupe River that swelled to nearly 30 feet near the site.
The death toll, which includes 18 adults and nine children, rose from 24 reported Friday night, Kerr County Sheriff Larry Leitha said during a Saturday morning news conference. Officials have not released further details about the victims as identification efforts continue.
Search and rescue operations are ongoing as more storms threaten the region, with up to 10 additional inches of rain forecast Saturday.
