A pair of late-night burglars are being sought for breaking into five Bronx stores, police said Saturday.
The crooks, one of whom was recorded wearing a New York City Housing Authority hoodie on at least one occasion, have been burglarizing stores — mostly closed bodegas — since June 24, when they swiped $200 from the register of the Super Laundromat on Morris Ave. near McClellan St. in the Concourse section of the Bronx.
In that incident, the suspects broke both the security gate and a glass door to the business at about 3 a.m., before removing the cash from the register, cops said.
The rest of the crimes followed the same pattern: Sometime between 1:30 a.m. and 3:30 a.m., the suspects managed to break open a security gate and the front door to a store before emptying the register.
Cops did not immediately disclose how the thieves opened the security shutters, which are traditionally secured with a heavy-duty lock.
The suspects have hit at least three groceries and bodegas during the spree, cops said. All of the stores are within a short distance from each other in the same police precinct, cops said.
Their second burglary on June 24 was by far their most successful. After entering the Mart 33 Convenience store on E. 167th St. near Grant Ave., which is a block away from the first break-in, the crooks took $1,500 in cash from the register and $1,000 worth of cigarettes, cops said.
No injuries were reported in any of these crimes. Their last burglary took place on July 1, cops said.
Police on Saturday released a surveillance photos of the suspects in the hopes someone would recognize him.
Anyone with information regarding their whereabouts is urged to call NYPD Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
