Suspected drunk driver causes wrong-way crash on I-70 in Clark County

A suspected drunk driver caused a four-car wrong-way crash on Interstate 70 in Clark County early Sunday morning.

The crash occurred on I-70 westbound near State Route 235 around 5:30 a.m., according to a spokesperson with the Ohio State Highway Patrol Springfield Post.

A preliminary investigation found that Eric Cumming, 70, of Springfield was driving a Chevrolet Malibu westbound in the eastbound lanes of the interstate.

The spokesperson said Cumming crashed into an oncoming Ford Escape driven by a 22-year-old woman from Kansas City, Missouri.

The Ford continued and hit a Toyota Prius driven by a 45-year-old woman from Upper Arlington.

The Toyota went off the left side of the road and hit a concrete wall, the spokesperson said.

Cumming kept driving westbound and hit a Nissan Frontier, driven by a 47-year-old man from Luray, Virginia.

Medics took Cumming to an area hospital with minor injuries, the spokesperson said.

All of the other drivers were checked out by medics on scene, but claimed no injuries.

The spokesperson said alcohol is suspected to be a factor in this crash.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol Springfield Post will continue to investigate this crash.
