Must read

A woman was killed and a man seriously injured when a house on the east side of Detroit exploded Saturday afternoon, significantly damaging two other homes.

According to a spokesman for the Detroit Police Department, calls about the home explosion on McCormick Street off of Moross Road came at around 4 p.m. Saturday, July 5. Emergency crews pulled a 46-year-old man from the scene, and he is in critical but stable condition, police said. Law enforcement officials did not share any additional information about the woman who died in the incident.

The cause of the explosion is still being investigated, with fire investigators, DTE Energy officials and other utility agency officials on the scene, according to the police spokesman.

A few house explosions in 2025 have rattled metro Detroit communities. A woman in Southgate died and another person was injured when a house in the downriver community exploded in April. In May, a house in Westland exploded. And in March, a gas leak caused an apartment building explosion that left a dozen people, including children, injured.
