Initial filings for unemployment benefits in Alabama rose the previous week compared with the week prior, the U.S. Department of Labor said June 26.
New jobless claims, a proxy for layoffs, increased to 2,325 in the week ending June 21, up from 2,045 the week before, the Labor Department said.
U.S. unemployment claims dropped to 236,000 the previous week, down 10,000 claims from 246,000 the week prior on a seasonally adjusted basis.
Vermont saw the largest percentage increase in weekly claims, with claims jumping by 108.9%. Minnesota, meanwhile, saw the largest percentage drop in new claims, with claims dropping by 41.6%.
