Berks, Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Lehigh, Montgomery and Northampton counties in Pennsylvania as well as most of New Jersey — including Burlington, Camden, Gloucester and Mercer counties — are under a flood watch until midnight.
“Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations,” the flood watch from the National Weather Service, Mount Holly, N.J. stated. “Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas.”
A front will collide with the tropical airmass to produce widespread showers and thunderstorms Tuesday afternoon into the evening, the NWS said.
“Rainfall rates of up to 2 inches per hour or more will be possible, leading to flash flooding,” said the NWS.
A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect until 9 p.m. Tuesday.
The heat advisory previously announced remains in effect until 8 p.m. for Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Philadelphia counties. Heat indexes of 102-103 degrees were predicted for the area.
