Jul. 16—Somerville police arrested a man from Joppa on Saturday night and charged him with drug trafficking after police found narcotics in his pocket following a traffic stop, according to a police affidavit filed Tuesday.
Timathy Lewis Payne, 32, was booked into the Morgan County Jail just after midnight Sunday on charges of drug trafficking, two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, tampering with physical evidence and a tag light violation. He remained in jail Wednesday in lieu of a $161,500 bond.
According to the affidavit, Payne was stopped on Union Road and Alabama 67 and found to be in possession of approximately 6.8 grams of a methamphetamine and fentanyl mixture. He also threw a meth pipe onto the roadway to prevent the officer from arresting him for it.
Payne has a preliminary hearing scheduled for Aug. 5 in Morgan County District Judge Shelly Waters’ courtroom.
