People visiting the DeLand SunRail station will be able to get a free trip to downtown DeLand through Votran’s DeLand SunRail Circulator starting July 21.
Votran, Volusia County’s public transportation system, is resuming service on the circulator “due to popular demand,” according to a news release from Volusia County government.
SunRail is a train system with 17 stations across Volusia, Seminole, Orange and Osceola counties. The DeLand station at 2491 Old New York Ave. is SunRail’s northernmost stop.
The DeLand SunRail Circulator will use a cutaway bus, which is smaller than a regular bus. The circulator’s route will include the DeLand SunRail station and several stops downtown.
SunRail runs on weekdays only, and the circulator will provide rides from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Stops will include:
Alabama Avenue and Indiana Avenue.
Woodland Boulevard and Ohio Avenue, near 7-Eleven and Stetson University.
Rich Avenue next to the Thomas C. Kelly County Administration Center, where many government offices are located and the County Council has its meetings.
West New York Avenue and Woodland Boulevard, in front of the Volusia County Historic Courthouse.
The circulator will come by the DeLand SunRail station several times a day. The circulator will leave the station at five minutes past the hour from 9 a.m. through 1 p.m. It will also leave the station at 2:01 p.m., 3:10 p.m. and 4:10 p.m.
How do I get a free ride to and from the SunRail station and downtown DeLand?
Here’s how people can get a free ride, according to Volusia County Transit Services Director Bobbie King:
After arriving by train at the SunRail station in DeLand, as you are boarding the circulator bus, show the bus driver your train ticket to get a free bus ride. People who get off the bus and get on again to go to another destination downtown or elsewhere must pay.
Here’s how to get the equivalent of a free ride back to the DeLand SunRail station. Buy a Votran bus ticket and board the circulator to go back to the train station. When you get to the SunRail train station, swipe your bus ticket at an automated SunRail kiosk to get $2 off on your SunRail trip ― that’s the cost of a regular bus trip.
