One Delaware department head will soon be moving on to start a new role in Delaware government.
Gov. Matt Meyer’s office announced July 18 that Delaware Department of Health and Social Services Secretary Josette Manning will be leaving her position in the fall.
Manning was nominated for the position in December 2024, following Meyer’s gubernatorial win the month before.
One of the many familiar faces in Meyer’s Cabinet, Manning previously spent over two decades in various state department positions, including at the state Department of Services for Children, Youth and Their Families and the state Department of Justice.
In a statement, Meyer called Manning “a tireless champion for Delaware families” throughout her many years of public service, and the Health and Social Services department “has achieved groundbreaking progress” under her leadership.
“Her unwavering commitment to our most vulnerable populations has set a new standard for effective, compassionate governance,” he said.
Manning’s departure will take effect on Oct. 1.
She is slated to serve as state director for the office of U.S. Sen. Chris Coons, one of the three members of Delaware’s federal delegation on Capitol Hill.
Coons said in a statement he is “excited” to welcome Manning into the fold.
“A native Delawarean and life-long public servant, Josette brings a strong record as a leader and an advocate, and I know she’ll fight to improve the lives of Delawareans,” Coons said.
“At a time when vital federal investments — from health care and nutrition assistance to education and housing — are facing real threats in Washington, it’s more important than ever to have someone with Josette’s expertise, values, and proven leadership on my team.”
