Shawn Irvin was identified on Friday morning as the man killed in the shooting, according to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office.
As News Center 7 previously reported, Dayton officers responded to reports of a shooting at the 500 block of West Fairview Avenue around 9:30 p.m.
When they got to the scene, they found Irvin shot inside a vehicle.

This is the second shooting on W. Fairview in the past seven days, and neighbors told News Center 7 on Friday that they’re tired of hearing gunshots in their neighborhood.
“It’s getting worse,” Joanne Allen said. “I mean, we have people on that end getting shot, people on that end. And now it finally hit our block.”
Allen told News Center 7 that she’s watched violence increase over the 15 years she’s lived on Fairview Avenue. She usually walks her dog at night to avoid the heat, but she’s thankful she stayed inside Thursday night.
“I could have been easily coming down this street or walking down the sidewalk and would have seen what happened,” Allen said. “But then you know what, I might not have been a witness today.”
As reported on News Center 7 at 5:00, another neighbor said he was the first to run over to Irvin’s car. He wanted to stay off camera since police have not identified the shooter, but wanted to share a message to Irvin’s family.
“I’m hoping that God can take them and help them out during this difficult situation,” the neighbor said.
The shooting is under investigation by detectives from the Dayton Police Department’s Homicide Unit.
