An outdoor warning siren in Grand Chute is now inoperable and will no longer sound during weekly noon Saturday siren testing or during severe weather events, the Grand Chute Fire Department announced July 18.
The siren, located at Mayflower Road and Pennsylvania Avenue, had been in service for about 25 years.
An outdoor warning siren, located at Mayflower Road and Pennsylvania Avenue in Grand Chute, is no longer operable, the Grand Chute Fire Department announced July 18.
The Town Board had previously planned to decommission the siren, and upgrade and relocate the outdoor warning siren at Badger Elementary School to a spot directly west at Fire Station Two, 3900 West Spencer St.
Fire Chief Steven Denzien said the new site will assist in “maximizing the effectiveness of the outdoor warning siren system while also allowing the siren to be powered redundantly by a backup generator already installed at that location.”
Denzien added the plan will be “executed expeditiously.”
The sirens are intended for outdoor warning only. They are not intended to be heard inside homes or businesses. The Outagamie County Emergency Management recommends residents obtain NOAA weather radios or a local weather phone app for severe weather alerts.
